This came through my feed today. It made me laugh. But also... it's true. A friend said the same meme had been made about Louisiana. I'm sure it's been made about loads of states, probably even some where they think the sun is out to kill them, but they really have no idea.

So, I hear there's talk of a Royal Wedding happening in a day or two, between these two pictured above. The States are salivating at the news, like they do with any 'romantic' news of the British Royal Family.
This is not a post where I'll be gushing. It's a post because I don't understand. So... today's been a weird day. See that guy up there? That's my older brother. Who's been dead these past 12 years. Yet, for some reason he's showing up in my life today all over the place and I'm unsure as to why.
So, I've been trying to watch The Motorbike Show, like ya do. Yes, there may be a slight ulterior motive, but I do enjoy motorbikes, or motorcycles as their called stateside really, and I was keen to watch it anyways.
So, motorbikes, fuck yeah, come on y'all! This is Mariya Oktyabrskaya. And if past lives are real, then this is me. Or else we're just kindred spirits. She's a pretty badass female military hero. Let's discuss.
Mother's Day is weird for me. It's a holiday that I have to celebrate, but do not wish to at all.
It's not that my mom's dead... not really. It's just she's not my mom. It's complicated and strange and not very pleasant really, but here goes. So, I like France. Who doesn't, right? OK apparently a lot of Americans don't like it for some weird reason. I've never been, but French people that I meet seem to like me OK; as in they're nice, so I don't see a problem. And I'm talking real French people. Not people who've lived stateside for 100 years or more and have French ancestry, as that's completely different. I'll go to France someday, but it hasn't happened yet.
But I'm also over the moon that France used to own me. As in I'm part of Baby France/New France. They tromped around in my area setting up their new homes along the Gulf Coast, in New Orleans, and in Natchez. I was thrilled that Natchez celebrated their Tricentennial last year and New Orleans theirs this year. All because of France. Natchez even had a French delegate show up for their official day in August and I was sad to miss that. So, France/New France I like. But, then France turned around and slapped me in the face. This is a new advertisement that's been coming through my feed. It's from Duraflame and it's about playing bocce ball.
My question is... where are these people from where this can be a reality in the middle of May? They're burning a fire. They're wearing jeans and little boots. They've double layered shirts with a long sleeved one that's only rolled up three-quarters and their very long hair is down. You can't do this where I live and this photo is completely unbelievable to me in my current reality. Obviously there are people out there for whom this picture seems normal. Are y'all in the Arctic Circle, by chance? I've always had this certain notion of love. Where you and your mate know each other so well you can know what the other is thinking or how they're feeling just from a hand gesture, stance, facial expression, or some audible grunt they give when they're feelings are hurt or they're bored, thrilled, etc. And you know that because you know them.
That the two of you can be comfortable reading quietly together in the same room or goofing off together doing something y'all love and just having a grand time either way. They'll have their quirks and you'll have yours and you'll see them, acknowledge those, and love that person, quirks and all. Like completely love them, even if they get on your nerves sometimes, and you'd do anything for them; do anything to please them; just to bring a smile to their face, to brighten their day in some way. And of course I think that love is give and take, so they'd want to do anything to please you as well. So, Van Halen. I dig them. A lot. Well, old school Van Halen; good Van Halen in my opinion. When David Lee Roth was part of the band (& they were putting out albums) from 1978 - 1985. It's not because of David Lee Roth, though I like him alright, but it's just the music was so solid, ya know?
I actually have never run across any girls my age who even like Van Halen. Some don't even know who they are/were, which honestly blows my mind. I am slightly too young for the demographic of teenage boys who enjoyed their music, but it's still part of my life, how could I not like their early stuff? I'll admit that it's probably because of my older brother. Perhaps if not for him, I would never have even heard this music when I did and would be one of those people to say, "Van Halen, who?" But this post is not really entirely about my brother or Van Halen, though it did need a sort of introduction. |
