This is a new advertisement that's been coming through my feed. It's from Duraflame and it's about playing bocce ball. My question is... where are these people from where this can be a reality in the middle of May? They're burning a fire. They're wearing jeans and little boots. They've double layered shirts with a long sleeved one that's only rolled up three-quarters and their very long hair is down. You can't do this where I live and this photo is completely unbelievable to me in my current reality. Obviously there are people out there for whom this picture seems normal. Are y'all in the Arctic Circle, by chance? Let me break it down for you. I live in a very southernly portion of the south eastern US. Not Florida, but close to the Gulf of Mexico (but not close enough to feel breezes). Yesterday it was 90 degrees with 50%-ish humidity. Today the high will be 88 with 30% humidity. And this is considered nice weather for here because it's going to get much, much worse.
We'll be 95 - 99 degrees with 80 - 100% humidity before long. You'll go outside and the air will be so thick that just sitting in the shade it'll be slightly difficult to breath, your whole body will be covered in sweat and your hair will be plastered to your face. Walking will feel like wading through warm pudding with a damp wool blanket just out of the dryer thrown on top of you. It's not that humid yesterday or today, but it's just as close to miserable as one could expect. And here I am seeing this advertisement. It makes me uncomfortably hot. I couldn't imagine wearing my hair down, much less be wearing all of those clothes outside while being active with a fire going! It's like this show I'm watching. They're in England which appears to have the best weather imaginable in my opinion. Normally I can get on board when people are blowing cold breath or are bundled up against the cold. But these guys were wearing gloves and heavy jackets and sometimes a vest over that or a skull cap or else they were all zipped up into mechanics jumpsuits with gloves on. It was not the thing to watch yesterday since our air conditioning was being fritzy. It was so hot I was schvitzing just sitting here not doing anything. So then seeing people all bundled up against the cold; instead of thinking, 'Ah The Cold, how I miss thee, let me remember and bask in your awesomeness.' all I could think was, 'Oh my god y'all! Take all that stuff off, it's too hot for that nonsense!' It was sad because I couldn't remember what cold was like and so couldn't enjoy it. I could only realize searing heat and oppressive humidity and all those clothes were making me even hotter than I was and more uncomfortable. I miss the cold. I miss the rain too. It was supposed to rain today, but it's now set for Tuesday. But it's not the same. It's like a greenhouse. Instead of lovely chilly rain, it'll be humid and sticky and wet. Like you've just walked into a greenhouse on a very hot day with the misters on.
