So, I'm really late to the party; eight months late to be exact, but I'm finally watching Season 13 of Supernatural. I could watch it on the telly, but I forget. Plus binge-watching is more fun, so I always wait until Netflix picks up the current season to start watching. I'm three epi's in, so let's discuss. First of all, we'll discuss that photo up there. So, that dude comes on the screen and I'm like, "Sure, OK. I miss Crowley, but I can hunker down and watch."
Only then he starts speaking and his voice is sticky and thick as molasses. They made him southern. And not only southern, they pretty much just said, "Be Colonel Sanders, OK? OK! And ACTION!" I couldn't take the character seriously at all. I just kept MST3K-ing him and dubbing him over in my best Colonel Sanders voice with, "But, Dean you can not resist my fried chicken." "It is finger lickin' good, after all." "Try the secret recipe, it's my favourite." "Trust the chicken, Jack." Which written out it all just seems like dirty euphemisms, but really I was strictly making him pimp out actual fried chicken, y'all. But you get the idea. It was making me laugh a little, and mostly at myself, but also I was rolling my eyes at the same time. He doesn't seem evil in the least, he just seems like he really, really wants you to eat his fried chicken. Does he get any better? Or is he just Colonel Sanders the entire way through? Like is that funny and I'm just not hip enough to find it rip-roaringly hilarious? Or will it grow on me? I suppose it won't much matter, because from what I read he'll die at some point in this season. And why are Lucifer and Mary just walking in circles in the alternate world? Is there a reason for this? I just kept telling them, "For the love of all that his holy y'all, just stop walking!" And is it just me or are the Angels more Terminator this season? I feel like before they were all warrior-ish, but really just prissy and talked about kicking ass, but couldn't be bothered to really get their hands dirty. Now they're head smacking like it's going out of style. Was it twelve times I counted just in that first epi? I suppose I can get on board with it, but it's not how they've been played in all of the other seasons so it just seems out of nowhere and a little intense and offputting. I'm going to keep watching, of course, I want to know how it plays out, but I'm also thinking that I need to go back and re-watch seasons 11 and 12. I didn't even remember Donatello.
