A friend of mine who is very in to make-up shared this challenge and was participating. I'm not very in to make-up, but thought it would be interesting none-the-less to take a stab at this. So, what's a girl who's not that into beautifucation got to offer for this challenge? Let's see, shall we? When I say that I'm not very in to make-up, it's not an understatement. I never wear it. Do I own it? You betcha. Why is that not weird? Because The Sister would purchase make-up for me or give me items she no longer used, but were still viable. Also, I do like make-up in the theatrical sense. I keep my small arsenal for Halloween or fancy dress or just if someone I know needs a make-up item for those same reasons. Why chuck it all and go out and buy Halloween specific make-up? Both the Matroyshka and the Undead Avon Lady Halloween costumes were created with my make-up collection. It's not high-tech, but I'm not into the whole spirit gum and fake skin aspects. Though I do use fake blood when I went as Carrie back in my late teens. The Matroyshka is just one shape of lipstick painted into a cupids bow, another shade for my large, rosy cheeks, I did plaster foundation all over my face to get that more alibaster look, and it's just exagerated eyeliner in a black shade. Pin on a Russian looking scarf I have and bada-bing bada boom and Bob's your uncle and we're done! For the Undead Avon Lady, I used some dark eye shadow for exaggerated darkness on my lids and even darker under the eyes. Lipstick all smeared on my lips and my face. And red lip stain and black eye liner to show where I'd slashed my wrists and the doctors had stitched those wounds back up. I'm from the seventies, because why not go vintage when you can, so I'm wearing my hair (though it's not that visable) in a retro housewife style, and the scarf around my neck. While I am a smoker, I never show that in photos. But I'm a housewife from the seventies who killed herself, of course I'd have been a smoker, so it's part of the look. It also helps having some lying around for "science experiments". Some guy I know was talking about women only doing half of their faces to show the difference with and without make-up. I thought it was interesting and decided to try my hand at it. If I wear make-up, it's just a slight smattering of mascara on the upper lashes only, then lip balm. If I want lip colour, which isn't often, I'll slap some on over the lip balm so it's more muted. Which is the first photo on the left. Slight mascara and lipstick vs nothing at all. If I were to make myself up for some reason other than Halloween, it'd be the second photo. Foundation (which I'm apparently a difficult skin tone to match, but whatever), mascara on both bottom and top lashes, eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick not over lip balm. So the second photo is that vs nothing at all. That last photo? Oh-ho! It makes me laugh! There was some app that would make all your photos more beautiful, so your skin tone was even and smooth and you looked like a super model. I had to have that app. Not because I wanted to "airbrush" any photos of myself, but so that I could create crazy photos like that third one. This is the girl you're reading from, y'all. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how I knew that I had to utilize that app; to make myself into a Queen Overlord, because my humor is super wacky. OK, enough of that, onto the make-up. This is every single piece that I own. I broke it down into eyes, face, and lips. Let's see. I purchased, for myself, the mascara, the pixi lip tint (that big crayon thing in the bottom photo), the eye liner pencil sharpener, the brown tube of eyeshadow, the white glitter eye shadow, the purple eyeshadow, and the concealor (that tan crayon thing in the second photo). The purple eyeshadow I picked up at a yard sale, because it was reminiscent to the purple glitter eyeshadow that The Sister had purchased for me from The Gap when she worked there in the '90s. The eyeshadows, pencil sharpener, and concealer from when I worked for the now defunct Body Shop at Home. I, the girl who doesn't wear make-up, was a beauty consultant for about a year. It was kind of fun though because I got to get other Body Shop products like the Brazil Nut body butter or the men's shave cream that they no longer sell. Yes, it's that Body Shop, as in the British company started up in Brighton back in the 70s. Anyways, why throw stuff out unless it gets goopy or starts to smell, right? The other items The Sister purchased for me, or else purchased for herself and handed them onto me. She was real big into Estee Lauder, so that's why there's a lot of that going on. It's also weird that for a girl who doesn't wear make-up I have some pretty high end or near high end pieces. Estée Lauder and Prescriptives; Aveda, Pixi, The Body Shop, Sonia Kashuk. The cheapest things are the eyeshadow which was the inexpensive black lady make-up line, Milani, I believe, and then that mascara from Maybeline. 01;; Can't Live Without - Lip balm. No seriously, I can't live without it. I've tried. I've had this issue that's all in my head since I was in the 2nd grade. My lips felt dry, I was convinced they were too dry. It could have been emotional issues too, but I would lick my lips to get them moistened. This turned into licking too much and the skin around my lips would be raw and blistered. My mom shoved some medicated lip balm at me, Carmex, I think, and now I'm literally addicted to the stuff. It's sad, yes, but I am working on using it less often and trying to back away from it gradually until I no longer feel like I need it. I did use Bonne Bell Lip Smackers in simple scents like all the vanilla types, or light sugar like cotton candy. I'll also use Burt's Bees, but not the plain honey one, because it's too sticky for my taste, and this one sounded nice, but the scent was off-putting. Now I have vanilla bean. 03;; Nighttime Essentials - Face cleaning and moisturization (I don't have a Favourite Organic Product). I'm not very good with a daily regime, so I only wash my face before I shower, which isn't every day. The soap is a Neutrogena Facial Bar, so my facial cleanser. If I'm feeling extra gritty, I'll use a Witch Hazel toner. This was some I won through Bear's Beauty, but that's since been used up, and I just refilled the little bottle with Dicken's. The Pacifica Dream Youth is my lotion if I'm feeling a little dry in spots. I don't use lotion if I can help it (body or face). It traps in heat and I feel like I'm covered in grease and it makes me sweat something fierce. So, it's winter time or dry patches. 04;; Patriotic - sure why not. Here's the most red, white, and blue make-up I've got. Estée Lauder Pure Colour Crystal Shimmer in Twinkling Ruby, Pacifica coconut infused mineral eye shadow in Mermaid Aqua (both purchased by The Sister and handed down), and Sparkle Pot: Fairy Lights white glitter eye shadow by The Body Shop (my purchase). 05;; Best Neutral Palette - let's nude it up all they way, right? So, for the make-up, it's Sun Dome Shade bronzer in Summer Garden by The Body Shop, Cream Eye Colour in Mink by The Body Shop (both my purchase), Invisible Fluid Makeup by Estée Lauder (matched to my shade as best as they could), Prescriptives Lipstick in Mah-Jongg (both purchased for me by The Sister), and Concealer Pencil in shade 4 (tan), by The Body Shop (purchased by me). Then the neutral nail polishes that I own. I wear nail polishes a lot more than make-up, to be honest. There's a medium brown, dark brown, off-white, and then a nude pink. 06;; Bronzer Collection - it's just the one, that of course, I never really wear. 07;; Most Surprising Product - The fact that I even own most of this stuff? 08;; Favourite Summer Lipsticks - These are my go-to shades though there are others. These are Pure Colour Crystal Shimmer in Watermelon Fizz and Pure Colour Lasting Summer in Wildly Pink by Estée Lauder (the first was a hand-me-down from The Sister, the second she purchased for me). The others are a round gold tube of Pure Colour Crystal Shimmer in Rose Envy and as the Prescriptives Mah-Jongg, but I rarely wear those two when I choose a lipstick. 09;; Beauty Confession - Besides y'all be well aware of by now that I have all this stuff, most of which I didn't even buy, and I rarely wear it, I'll go with a different "confession". In high school I did wear make-up. I liked experimenting. So, I did fancy cat eye eyeliner or even 311 eye make-up (check this post), and also crazy eye shadows like bright green, orange, purple, red eyeliner, bright red lipstick. I kind of looked like Mi-Mi from The Drew Carey Show if I'm being honest. Also, I never removed my make-up. I'd just sleep in it and reapply. If my mascara smudged under my eye and I looked like a raccoon, I never even thought to clean that up. There was also the one time I wanted to see if any of my fellow school mates would notice a change in skin colour. I bronzed my face on Monday, upped it gradually through out the week, and Friday wore no make-up what-so-ever. No one noticed the gradual uptick in my darkening complexion, but they sure did take notice when it suddenly vanished. It was an interesting "science experiment" and was amusing to me. 10;; Friday Favourites - I don't have anything special for days of the week. 11;; Coral - it's the closet I have to a coral. Madmen Special Collection rouge cream (blush) in Evening Rose by Estée Lauder (purchased for me by The Sister, because she knows I did vintage). 12;; Everyday Essentials - They're not an everyday thing except for the lip balm, but yes, loads of times I'll have at least the first two on, and if it's a whimsical sort of day, I'll top the balm off with some lip colour. 13;; Top 5 Favourite Brushes - Obviously, I rarely use these. But they do get used on occasion. So, I have this lovely little set of brushes that look like coral. They came with a little bag to hold them that's white white orange coral on it, but I use that for my nail things (clippers and file and such). Though I prefer the short, stubby one to the other large brush, it just depends upon which one I reach for as to how I apply bronzer/blush stuff. The three below it are eyeshadow brushes. One for the crease, but I also use it to apply eyeshadow as an eyeliner; then there's a flat brush and a slightly fuller one. The one up top is what is from when I worked for The Body Shop, putting the cap on the bottom pushes the brush up. It's a lip brush, so that I can do all sorts of fancy non-natural retro lip lines like the cupids bow, hunters bow, bee-sting, the smear, etc. This is my favourite brush, the lip one, as it's so fun to try on different lips. You can't do that with lipstick alone, as a brush needs to be involved. It's how I did my lips for the Matroyshka costume. That was a mix of The Cupids Bow and The Bee Sting, respectively. 14;; Best BB Cream - don't use this. 15;; Favourite Packaging - Hands down the Madmen sixties inspired lipstick and rouge set by Estée Lauder. Everything is perfectly vintage recreated. The blush is a cream rouge in a compact with a gold pouch. The lipstick is smaller than lipsticks today (more in size of the Perscriptives that I have), also with a little gold pouch. And the boxes are so beautiful. I've never even watched the show Madmen, but The Sister knew I would love this. I do. If I were to get rid of all of my make-up except for a thing or two here or there, these are the two items that I would keep. 16;; Product That Gets The Most Compliments - Probably this one, if people ever see the packaging and small sizes of them. 17;; Yellow - I have nothing make-up wise that is yellow, but I do have one yellow nail colour. I generally buy nail colour on super sale and this was no exception. A yellow would be fun, and I like the vintage look of the bottle with it's square shape and round top, plus a scented one, yes please! 18;; Favourite Cheek Highlight - This is not entirely accurate. While these have been used from tiem to time and the little bottle is a lip stain by Pixi, my go to is actually some lipstick, but that is only for certain looks (read: Halloween). But the first two are actually cheek highlights. You would think a lip stain shouldn't be used, but it works really well. It has a nail brush wand (so not a lip gloss one, though I had one like that once). I can either lightly swipe it where I want and blend with the fingers, or else dab some on my fingers and work in. The key is don't use too much. 19;; Handbag Makeup - I have a little pouch that I pick up at a yard sale, from people that used to live in China. It was made by the Mao people. I keep one roll on parfume and one tube of lipstick in there at all times. The lip balm is always on my person. I suppose scent is considered beauty, but I was just sticking with the colour aspect of make-up or nail polishes. So, no, I don't carry my mascara around with me, nor any brushes or other types of make-up. I do have some bobby pins for emergencies as well as some headache pills, a small nail file, and some bandaids, but they're in a different container; a small tin, and they aren't beauty anyway, unless you count the bobby pins since hair is a beauty thing. I have quite a lot of nail colours in bright, as well as sensible colours. They also don't photograph well. Well, the blues don't anyway (which are not pictured, yet). I do paint my finger and toe nails and have colour on my toenails now, but I haven't painted my fingernails in about a month (perhaps a bit longer); which does lead me to.... 20;; Mani Monday - Out of all the colours up there (and some blues), this is what I chose when I was taking photo's this month. I'd choose from either picture to paint my fingernails. The first photo is of a black nail colour and the second is just basically glitter. If you put that on alone you'll just have a clear coat with specks of black and white. It looked like it would be black nail colour in there, so I thought this when I purchased it, but it's not. There's only one glitter that is a clear coat that I'll wear alone and it is that copper one up there (Sally Hanson Triple Shine - bottom right photo). But, I already had the black, so it wasn't a problem. Anyways, I'd apply the black, and then decide in the moment if I wanted to top all of the nails with the glitter, or just a few, or just one. The second photo shows three of my favourite polishes. The pink one is pretty bright, but not that bright. The gold looks like 60's gold lamé, which I love. The third isn't so flashy, but is a gold; and when the light hits it just right it'll either show flecks of green or blue. It's really pretty. It was a hand-me-down from The Sister too. I don't like to do one single colour (except on my toes), so with this I'd probably aim for my nails to be gold with one nail being pink. Only since there are two golds, I'd probably have them all lamé one one being the green/blue gold. The secret finger of gold. Oh, hahah I guess I'd be Goldfinger. I'd never thought of it that way before and that's kind of awesome. 21;; Favourite New Release - I'm not up on the world of make-up enough to know about what's being released and what isn't. 22;; Your First High End Product - Is not something I own anymore, but I know it was something Estée Lauder (both mom and The Sister were into that company) and it was some sort of lipgloss when I was fourteen. 23;; Favourite Beauty Brand - I, unsurprisingly, don't really have a favourite beauty brand. I suppose I do like the Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails Xtreme Wear nail colours and I do like The Sisters' moss mascara by Aveda as it's made with mosses and smells kind of mossy (which I like), but is too dear for me to purchase myself. Because I just have a hodge-podge of beauty products and I just have what catches my eye or what my mom or The Sister purchase for me or give to me, because I'm not that picky in this department. 24;; Best Colourful Palette - If I were going to be wild and wear eye make-up on a particular day, then this is what I would choose. I'd barley line my top lid in that black glitter gooey (so, not powder) eyeshadow from Estée Lauder (or do a slight cat eye possibly), then I would line in the orange eyeliner right above that with the one from Aveda, and use the purple glitter eyeshadow for my lid and use the Pixi lip stain on my lips. Because if I'm going to do more than just mascara on my eyes, then I will put colour on my lips, otherwise it'd just be oddly uneven. I love all of this together; these colours, which I've even swatched on my hand. See? Mi-Mi. I just can't help it. 25;; Top 5 Eyeliners - We're seeing some of the same players here, which is not unsurprising. And, as you've read, I'm not above putting make-up meant for one place somewhere else. So, three of these are eyeshadows, but I will use them as eyeliners, no problem. It's hard to capture the white glitter, The Fairy Lights, but it is really pretty. All three shadows are glitter. Well, The Fairy Lights is nothing but glitter to add over your eyelids and eyeshadow, but the other two eyeshadows have a slight glimmer sheen to them, which you can kind of tell, I think. The other is a basic blackish-grey liner from The Body Shop and then the double-sided Aveda eyeliner in olive green and then bright orange. They're some great colours, those two. And you've probably guessed it, I rarely ever wear anything on my eyes other than a slight smattering of mascara on my upper lashes. I never got the hang of false lashes, though I wanted to for that whole 60s look, but I used to apply a heavy double coat of mascara to my top lashes and then a slight smattering on the bottom one's close to my outer eye. I haven't done that much mascara, on a regular basis, in six or more years. Just for fancy dress on Halloween. 26;; Mascara Stash - Yep, that's it. I used to have a small stash because my mom and The Sister would shop at Estée Lauder a lot more in the past and there were those free gifts. So, I had a full size and a travel mascara and this little tiny sample from an Avon party, and one from E.L.F. but those were so old that when they needed to go, I just went out and picked this up. People like this one right? I mean I like it just fine, but I remember teen girls using it in the 80s and the commercials for it and the colours are nice; reminds me of The Misfits. As in the "bad" girl rock band in the 80s cartoon Jem & The Holograms, not the New Jersey punk band that Danzig helped form. I like them, but this is not their colour scheme. 27;; Favourite Summer Blushes - Haha, yes I'm being funny, but living in the south no one really needs blush. Where we're going we don't need... blushes. I know people would say I could benefit from sunblock and a good foundation to even all that out. But you know what? It's just too impossibly hot here for any of that. Plus that's never felt right to me. Sure I could possibly stave of skin cancer, but if I'm going to get cancer, I'll get it. You can't really block for that. Look at records. People don't smoke or eat these certain bad foods or they stay out of the sun. They did everything "right" and BAM! It's the Big C. You do you and all, but I don't feel like feeling I'm covered in cling wrap just to look pretty and possibly might avert some disease. Plus, I always liked those old people that looked like ancient trees. Like they look older than dirt because the sun and life as weathered them a certain way. Or even old sailers with the salt water adding to that weathered look. I'm not going to try to look like them, but if that's how I age, then I'm perfectly fine with it. I'm me and this is the true-true. This is really me. You see what you get. I like being pragmatic and matter of fact about my exterior looks as well as things like the inner workings of my heart and brain. I'm not knocking people who hide in ways, but that's never been me at all. 28;; Teal - As you can see, blues don't photograph well, because except for that ORLY down there to the right (as it's more electric blue), they are all shades of teal.
29;; Worth The Splurge - Considering that I buy things on super sale or have them gifted to me, I haven't really spent more than $8 on a single item, if that. But, though it wasn't my money, I'd say the Madmen collection, because it was not a necessary purchase or gift, but it was awesome and totally worth it. Even The Sister (who purchased it for me as a gift) still thinks it was worth the splurge. 30;; Favourite Cleanser - I haven't found one, to be honest. I've used all sorts of things and none have been anything more than eliciting a "meh" from me. 31;; July Favourites - There's nothing. Except for possibly two days that I wore mascara and one day I added a lip colour, I haven't really painted my nails or worn any make-up. So, for answering's sake, we'll just say the lip balm. It's always the lip balm.
